Cruz Says We Must Keep the Internet Free

July 10, 2016

This is a transcript of Senator Cruz given on 7/7/2016.

Good afternoon and welcome. Thank you for joining us this afternoon. It is great to be with you to be discussing an issue I think of exceptional importance to our country and to the future.

“The Internet has been one of those transformational inventions that has changed how we communicate, how we do commerce, how we live our lives. For many, especially young people here, it’s hard to even imagine life before the Internet. But you look at what the Internet has done – it has created an oasis of freedom.

“One of the great problems with someone trying to start a small business is what are known as ‘barriers to entry.’ It’s often difficult to start a small business because it’s expensive. It used to be, a few decades ago, if you wanted to start a small business, you had to figure out a good or service to sell. You had to figure out production facilities. You had to figure out storage. And then you needed a distribution network. You needed wholesalers. You needed retailers. You needed display space. And you needed advertising. What the Internet has done is dramatically reduce the barriers to entry for anyone who wants to be an entrepreneur. You’re a man or woman somewhere across the country, or even a boy or girl somewhere across the country, or across the world, and you have an idea – a service you want to sell or a good you want to make – you can put up a website and instantly you’ve got an international marketing ability. You have a portal to communicate with people, and anyone can go online and order whatever your good and service is, and between that and FedEx or UPS you can ship it anywhere in the world. That is an extraordinary and transformational ability. That freedom – that you don’t have to go get anyone’s approval, you don’t have to go the Board of Business Authorization if you want to create a new business, if you want to take on, say, the existing taxi regimes, you start an Uber, and with the power of a whole bunch of cellphones, you transform how people get from place to place in one location – the Internet is democratizing in that effect. Read More

ICE Agent Commits Suicide in NYC and Leaves Note Revealing Government Plans

After writing a lengthy suicide note exposing terrifying plans the government has for American citizens, a US Customs Agent walked onto a pier in NYC and blew his brains out.

Sources inside the New York City Police Department have revealed to SuperStation95, the contents of a suicide note found on the body and they are utterly frightening.

The note, which says it was written over the course of a full week in advance, outlines why the officer chose to shoot himself: Read More

Sen. Cruz and Rep. Diaz- Balart Introduce Bill to Designate Muslim Brotherhood as Terrorist Organization

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) yesterday introduced the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act, urging the Secretary of State to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization. The U.S. has officially listed individual members, branches, and charities of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorists, but has not designated the organization as a whole. The Muslim Brotherhood poses a direct and severe threat to U.S. national security through radical jihadist attempts to eliminate and destroy America and its allies.

“This bill recognizes the simple fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is a radical Islamic terrorist group. For years, American presidents of both parties have correctly designated the Brotherhood’s various affiliates, such as Hamas and Ansar al-Sharia, as terrorist groups. They have designated individual Muslim Brotherhood leaders such as Shaykh Abd-al-Majd Al-Zindani, who was complicit in the 2000 attack on the USS Cole, and Sami Al-Hajj, who was captured on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in 2001 running money and weapons for al Qaida, as terrorists. Now we can reject the fantasy that their parent institution is a political entity that is somehow separate from these violent activities,” Sen. Cruz said. “A number of our Muslim allies have taken this common-sense step, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. As this bill details, the Brotherhood’s stated goal is to wage violent jihad against its enemies, and our legislation is a reality check that the United States is on that list as well.”

“I proudly join Sen. Cruz to introduce this bill in both chambers. This legislation codifies into law something that is long overdue. The Muslim Brotherhood has a long history of terrorism around the world. The group supports and stands behind numerous terrorist organizations that are responsible for acts of violence and aggression,” Rep. Diaz-Balart said. “It is time for Congress and the Department of State to recognize and sanction them as they deserve – as a foreign terrorist organization.”

A fresh approach to American foreign policy and U.S. Israel relations

Caroline Glick interviewed Cruz by telephone from the campaign trail earlier this week about his views on the purpose of American foreign policy, US-Israel relations, the Iran nuclear deal and the Palestinian conflict with Israel.

The transcript of the conversation follows.

Republican Leadership’s Budget Deal Gives President Obama a Blank Check

Upon the Republican leadership’s passage of the Obama-Boehner Budget Deal, a backroom agreement to grow our nation’s debt and bust responsible budget caps, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement after voting against this reckless bill:

“Pay no attention to another roughly $80 billion in debt. Pay no attention to the fact that it is the Republican-controlled Congress giving an unlimited credit card to Barack Obama, scheduling votes at 1 o’clock in the morning, and hoping that no one notices.

“How is it prudent to continue bankrupting this nation? How is it prudent to have gone from $10 trillion to over $18 trillion in debt? How is it prudent to stay with languishing economic growth from 2008 to today when the economy has grown on average 1.2% a year? That’s prudent? How is it prudent to watch as your children’s and my children’s futures are washed away? How is that reasonable? How is that pragmatic? Why are we not instead trying to fix these problems? And not even just fix them all, not even solve everything with a perfect magical bow. Because leadership plays this game, you can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Where’s the good? Leadership’s position is we can’t do anything. Leadership’s position is that with Republican majorities in both houses, we should spend more, roughly $80 billion, than we did with the Democratic majority, $63 billion.

“And let me note that for the remaining 15 months, we are going to see a binge from this president that makes the preceding six and a half years pale. I shudder to think what President Obama for 15 months will do with an unlimited credit card that the Republican majority in the House of Representatives and the Republican majority in the Senate have handed over to him.”

Big abortion’s plot to shut down pro life-centers

Big abortion’s plot to shut down pro-life centers is unraveling.

The ACLJ is filing a major federal lawsuit to stop an unconstitutional, anti-pro-life speech law that would force crisis pregnancy centers to promote abortion.

This new California law essentially turns pro-life pregnancy centers – which help women in need and save countless lives – into salesmen for the abortion industry. It’s even worse than a New York City ordinance we recently defeated in court. The abortion industry is colluding with pro-abortion legislators nationwide to silence, censor, and shut down pro-life pregnancy centers.

These unconstitutional laws force pro-life centers to promote abortion or face crippling fines that could shut them down. The ACLJ will be directly defending numerous crisis pregnancy centers in court and aggressively fighting in nearly a dozen pro-life cases across America.

The abortion industry is attempting to censor, silence, and shut down the lifesaving work of pro-life pregnancy centers.

Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America are conspiring with pro-abortion legislators all across America to stop pro-life centers’ lifesaving work. A new pro-abortion California law forces crisis pregnancy centers to refer women for “free or low-cost . . . abortion” or face crippling fines. Promote abortion or be shut down.

Earlier this month, California enacted one of these bully bills.  The new law actually requires pro-life centers to promote abortion – a message that goes against everything for which these organizations stand.

As unbelievably unconstitutional as that sounds, that is exactly what the new law does.  (You can read more about the bill as we explained it when it was first proposed here.)  But here’s how the new law works:

AB 775, known in the state legislature as The Reproductive FACT Act, requires all pregnancy centers that are licensed as clinics to post the following notice:

California has public programs that provide immediate free or low-cost access to comprehensive family planning services (including all FDA-approved methods of contraception), prenatal care, and abortion for eligible women. To determine whether you qualify, contact the county social services office.”

According to the legislation, pregnancy centers that fail to disseminate this message “are liable for a civil penalty of five hundred dollars ($500) for a first offense and one thousand dollars ($1,000) for each subsequent offense.”

Essentially, this new anti-pro-life speech law co-opts the pro-life centers as abortion salesmen.  If they refuse, they will be slapped with crippling penalties and eventually be forced out of existence.  It’s not only absurd; it’s unconstitutional.

The ACLJ has faced and defeated these unconstitutional anti-pro-life speech regulations in the past, and we’re preparing to do so again.

If these pro-abortion laws stand, vital pro-life work will be silenced and babies will die. The ACLJ is preparing critical legal action to fight back.

Conservative Members of Congress Demand Immediate Removal of Margaret Sanger Bust from Display

 October 14, 2015

Last week, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), along with 24 House Republicans, sent a letter to the Director of the National Portrait Gallery Kim Sajet, calling for the immediate removal of Margaret Sanger’s bust from the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. The bust is on display in the Gallery’s “Struggle for Justice” exhibit.

Sanger, a founder of Planned Parenthood, believed in using contraceptives to control the population of minorities, or people she deemed as “undesirables.” Specifically, Sanger advocated for the extermination of African-Americans. The letter, written by Sen. Cruz, Rep. Gohmert, and other conservative members, echoes a recent petition of pastors and supporters affiliated with S.T.A.N.D. who also demanded that Sanger’s bust be removed.

“There is no ambiguity in what Margaret Sanger’s bust represents: Read More

Displaying “In God We Trust” on Police Vehicles

On October 12, 2015, Governor Greg Abbott joined in on the support of the Childress Police Department's right to display "In God We Trust" on their patrol vehicles.

In a letter to Attorney General Ken Paxton, he stated: "If the Childress Police Department chooses to continue this patriotic display, it will have my full support."

Last week, Texas State Senator Charles Perry authored a letter with Rep. Drew Springer asking the attorney general to issue an opinion about the legality of displaying "In God We Trust" on law enforcement vehicles. This opinion should provide clarity for law enforcement across the state and ensure none are discouraged from using our national motto.

In a closing statement Texas State Senator Charles Perry said, “Our religious liberty is under assault from all fronts. It is up to Texas to be the national leader on this issue and ensure our state remains a place where citizens are free to express their religious beliefs without fear of retribution.

I look forward to working with my fellow legislators throughout the interim as we look at ways for Texas to exercise our Tenth Amendment rights and stand up to the federal government on these and other important issues!”

Cruz and Others Introduce Bill to End Sanctuary Cities and Combat Illegal Reentry

October 8, 2015

This week U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) introduced as a lead cosponsor the Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act. The bill would withhold federal funds from sanctuary jurisdictions. The legislation also incorporates critical elements of Kate’s Law, which Sen. Cruz introduced earlier this year, by imposing a five-year mandatory minimum sentence on any alien who illegally reenters the country after having been convicted of an aggravated felony or two prior illegal reentry offenses. In addition to Sen. Cruz, the original cosponsors of this bill include Sens. David Vitter (R-La.), Pat Toomey (R-Penn.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), David Perdue (R-Ga.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.).

“In light of the threat criminal aliens pose to the safety and security of our communities, we can no longer allow states and municipalities to take federal taxpayer money while turning a blind eye to the illegal aliens in their midst,” said Sen. Cruz. “What happened to Kate Steinle is heartbreaking. And the heartbreak is even more tragic given the circumstances. Clearly, our laws are not adequately deterring those who have already been deported from illegally reentering the country. I'm proud to join with my colleagues in sending the message that defiance of our nation's laws will no longer be tolerated. Of course, stiff penalties alone will not suffice. Congress must hold this Administration accountable for its failure-if not its outright refusal-to enforce federal immigration laws and ensure the safety and protection of the American people.”

Good News for the Holiest Place On Earth

 Sep 21, 2015

"Recently, the Israeli police have begun to ban the Hamas-sponsored Morabtion and Morabitat instigators from the Temple Mount during the morning hours. The move allows Jewish and Christian visitors to ascend the Mount and visit the holy site unaccosted.

Cry For Zion supports the Jewish people’s rights to sovereignty over Mount Zion (the location of the Temple Mount) and freedom of worship by all peoples on the site. The organization has publicly welcomed the new initiative by the Israeli police, noting that it is effectively restoring order and security for pilgrims and worshippers during the morning visitation hours.

However, it has expressed dissatisfaction that the Israeli police have not instituted a complete ban against agitators on the Temple Mount. According to Cry for Zion, such a ban would enable people of all faiths to enter and worship the site in dignity and freedom.

Cry for Zion’s aims include greater access for Jewish worshipers and tighter restrictions on the Muslim Waqf, which currently has control over the site. Their core demands from the Israeli government and security bodies include opening the Temple Mount to Jewish worshipers 24 hours a day, seven days a week; allowing Jews to pray on the Temple Mount; allowing freedom of movement for Jews on the Temple Mount; keeping the Waqf at a distance from Jewish worshipers; curtailing illegal Waqf construction activities, including destruction, unauthorized excavations and renovations; and preventing activities unbecoming of a holy site, such as kicking a soccer ball." (Breaking Israel News, Raphael Poch, 2015-9-6).

Save the date! Thur Oct 1 in Jerusalem. Come to the Cry For Zion EVENT for the Temple Mt! We invite supporters from around the world to join us in Jerusalem for the special CRY FOR ZION proclamation EVENT. If you are in Jerusalem the morning of the annual "Jerusalem March," come and show your support for the Jewish people’s rights to sovereignty over the Temple Mount. Time and Place to be announced very soon. Save the Date!

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Friday sent a letter to President Obama calling for the release of the Department of Defense's (DoD) risk assessment of Russia's violations of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF). The letter explains that the White House has blocked the release of the Pentagon report and is preventing Congress from investigating Russia's noncompliance.

"Although the State Department formally declared Russia to be in violation of the INF Treaty in 2014, additional reports indicate that the United States has harbored doubts of Russian compliance since 2008 stemming primarily from the R-500 ground-launched cruise missile. But these concerns were not shared with the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in September 2010 before the committee voted on the New START Treaty," Sen. Cruz wrote. "Only in late 2011, long after Congress voted in favor of the New START Treaty, did your Administration conclude that the R-500 was an official compliance concern."

"The Senate's advice and consent power is a pivotal element of a constitutional and prudent foreign policy, but it cannot be exercised if your administration does not act in good faith...This risk assessment report is necessary to determine a strategic response to Russia's treaty violations, and I request that you lift your embargo on this report immediately."...Read More

Trump and Cruz to hold joint event to blast Iran deal

GOP presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are expected to headline a Capitol Hill rally against President Obama's proposed nuclear agreement with Iran, both candidates confirmed Thursday.

Trump, the Republican front-runner by far, announced the event during a 45-minute speech in South Carolina. Cruz aides said the Texas senator extended the invitation to the billionaire developer ahead of Congress' vote on the accord in mid-September.

Cruz's campaign statement said the event is sponsored by Tea Party Patriots, the Center for Security Policy and the Zionist Organization of America. The Cruz campaign did not immediately offer other details, including the event date.

Their opposition to the Iran nuclear deal is not the only thing Trump and Cruz have in common. They both appeal to populists angry about the way Washington works and have made immigration one of the top issues of their campaigns. Cruz has refused to join other Republicans in criticizing Trump over the billionaire developer's comments that Mexicans in the U.S. illegally are "rapists" and criminals. Trump has called Cruz "a nice guy."

But they differ in key ways. Trump has nearly universal name recognition and a blunt-spoken campaign style that reflects his background as a reality show star. Cruz's megaphone, even as a U.S. senator from Texas, can't match Trump's. But the Harvard-trained lawyer and former Supreme Court clerk offers polish and a record on immigration policy that's based in his personal background.

Congress is expected to begin debate on the Iran accord when lawmakers return from recess Sept. 8.

Cruz Says End Planned Parenthood Funding

Over the past few weeks, Americans have seen a series of videos come out of Planned Parenthood that are nothing short of horrifying. The footage shows senior Planned Parenthood officials laughing, swilling chardonnay and casually, callously, heartlessly discussing killing unborn children in order to sell their body parts. These videos also force Americans to face the grim reality of what happens to the babies’ remains.

While the sheer candor of these Planned Parenthood officials has shocked most, what is more disturbing is the admission that these barbaric actions are standard practice in some abortion clinics. Worse still, Americans are currently forced to fund the organization that commits these acts. This must end.  An organization that generates a large part of its revenue from terminating innocent human life should not receive one penny of taxpayer money and those who engage in what may be criminal activity must be held to account.

For this reason, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should not schedule or facilitate the consideration of any legislation that gives federal money to Planned Parenthood. Instead, the Department of Justice needs to investigate and prosecute Planned Parenthood for any potential criminal actions of commercial trafficking of fetal organs.

It is mindboggling that any individual who has seen or knows the details of these videos could support continued taxpayer funding of the abortion industry.  Yet still, the billion-dollar Planned Parenthood receives about 45% of its funding from government sources.  Planned Parenthood has performed more than...Read More

Senator Cruz 2016 NDAA Reaffirms Our Commitment to Our Men and Women in Uniform

June 18, 2015

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding today’s final vote on the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Sen. Cruz introduced or cosponsored more than a dozen amendments that were successfully adopted into the bill.

“The 2016 NDAA will increase the military readiness and capabilities of the United States without increasing spending on programs entirely unrelated to our national defense,” said Sen. Cruz. “And I am grateful for the support my amendments received, including measures that will ensure the readiness of our troops, support for our allies, and continued vigilance against our adversaries. This bill reaffirms our commitment to the physical, mental and financial health of the men and women in uniform who volunteer to serve our nation. The reforms in this bill will provide more of our service members with financial benefits upon leaving military service, appropriate mental and physical health care, and improved quality of life for them and their families. Despite these laudable objectives, I could not vote for this bill because I made a promise when I was elected to office that I would not vote for an NDAA that continued to allow the President to violate the constitutional rights of American citizens by indefinitely detaining them without due process.”

Sen. Cruz sponsored the following amendments to the NDAA that were adopted by the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) during the markup process: Read More

Mike Lee on Dangers of the Crony Ex-Im Bank

Hi, I am Senator Mike Lee.

Until recently, most Americans had never heard of the Export-Import Bank – even though it’s one of the oldest government institutions in the country, and even though it uses taxpayer dollars to subsidize and give loan guarantees to foreign buyers of U.S. exports.

But that changed a few weeks ago, because for the first time in its 81 year existence, the Export-Import Bank – or just “Ex-Im” – is on the verge of extinction.

So supporters and opponents of Ex-Im have launched advertising campaigns to make the case for and against the Bank.

Last week, during my monthly tele-townhall from Washington, I received a call from a Utah resident who told me about a radio commercial she heard that encouraged the people of Utah to support Ex-Im... Read More... Watch Video

We Must Continue The Fight To Stop Obama's Bad Deal With Iran

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, released the following statement regarding votes on the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act:

"This bill was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority - if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment - then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal. Instead, the odds are now overwhelming that under these ground rules President Obama will negotiate, and Congress will acquiesce to, a terrible deal that allows Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and will endanger the lives of millions of Americans and our allies.

"I voted no on cloture because we should have insisted on amendments to put real teeth in this bill. Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obama's ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal. I will continue to lead the fight to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to protect the national security of America and our allies."

Sen. Cruz spoke about this legislation on the Senate floor on Wednesday.

Health Law Brings Growth in Food Stamps

President Barack Obama's health care law has had a surprising side effect: In some states, it appears to be enticing more Americans to apply for food stamps. The AP is reporting West Virginia's food-stamp enrollment increased 4 percent after a Medicaid expansion that was part of the health care changes. Enrollment jumped because people were "more engaged with our systems and more aware what they're eligible for," said Jeremiah Samples of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. National food-stamp enrollment declined in 2013 and 2014. But in 11 states, demand rose between January 2013 and the end of 2014, the AP analysis showed.

Ten of those states expanded their Medicaid programs under the health law. Six of the states employed new easy sign-up systems that helped people apply for both Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as food stamps, at the same time. Some used online calculators or click-the-box features. While it's unclear exactly how much growth can be attributed to the law and incentives it offered to states, the increased enrollment could be expensive... Read More

Catholic University Happy to Permit Pro-ISIS Club

Only a few days after exposing the disturbing willingness of a Cornell assistant dean to host a pro-ISIS club on campus, James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas has done it again. This time, the target is Miami’s private Barry University, a Catholic school with more than 4,000 students. The college offers degrees in teacher education, liberal arts, and nursing, but it is apparently also amenable to offering students the chance to support terrorists with both activism and actual supplies.

Unlike the Cornell video released by Project Veritas, where one could almost excuse the administrator for something as benign as a lack of attention, the undercover student at Barry University is completely up front about her intentions. Meeting with the school’s coordinator for Leadership Development and Student Organizations, Derek Bley, the undercover student asks about starting a group called: “Sympathetic Students in Support of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.”

Instead of throwing her out of his office, Bley notes that Barry University is not “here to limit people and their clubs. If there is a demand or a need, or an interest that students have to do this, we’re here to support that. So, but I would recommend maybe coming up with one or two other possible names just in case this one does not get through.”

Because that’s the problem with having a pro-terrorist club on campus. The name.

The student – only identified as “Laura” – is eager to see how far she can push Bley. She makes it clear that she’s not just interested in raising awareness; she wants the club to actually raise funds to send overseas to the Islamic State. “A lot of the fighters can’t see at night, you know? So like people are attacking them and they can’t see at night. And because like they are poor, they don’t have night vision and stuff so they wanted flashlights so they could like better protect themselves.”

It sounds like the making of a Saturday Night Live sketch, but Bley is unfazed by the absurdity of the request. University officials merely nod, offering to help Laura figure out how much it would cost to send bulk shipments of flashlights to ISIS.

You would have to have made a nice, comfortable home under a rock for the last year to not understand that ISIS is American enemy #1. Barry University has yet to respond to the video, but there is hardly an excuse for what transpired here. The big picture, though, has little to do with one or two private universities and everything to do with the disgusting liberal politics that have infected American academia. It’s one thing to permit diverse viewpoints on campus. It’s quite another to actively court a student who wants to send aid to one of the most inhumane, brutal groups modern civilization has ever witnessed.

Sen. Cruz and Rep. Bridenstine Introduce American Energy Renaissance Act

March 18, 2015

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Rep. Jim Bridenstine, R-OK-1, today introduced the American Energy Renaissance Act to empower the private sector to create good-paying American jobs, spur economic growth and expand opportunity. The companion legislation, introduced in the U.S Senate as S. 791 and in the House of Representatives as H.R. 1487, will harness our nation's energy resources and remove federal impediments to energy exploration, development and trade. The legislation will also reduce American dependence on unfriendly nations for our energy needs, and ensure the United States will be able to exert its influence and support its allies around the world.

"Today America faces a pivotal question," said Sen. Cruz. "Will we lead the world into a new generation of American prosperity led by the great American energy renaissance we're experiencing, or will we instead shut off our borders, erect walls, and allow our friends and allies to be dependent on tyrants like Vladimir Putin or Nicolás Maduro? We need to come together in a bipartisan manner to say we support jobs, we support economic growth, and we support standing united alongside our friends and allies in defense of freedom. This legislation is a win-win. The only thing the federal government needs to do is get out of the way and let Americans do what they do best: dream, innovate, and prosper."

"Oil and gas production on private lands created the entire energy boom over the past few years," said Rep. Bridenstine. "Our proposed changes in law and policy will open federal lands and reverse policies that cripple the free market and inhibit innovation and private investment. Opening federal lands to oil and gas development, allowing exports and infrastructure improvements, and stopping regulatory overreach will greatly expand U.S. energy production.

We can enhance national security by using America's resources to provide energy to our allies, particularly those in Eastern Europe currently in thrall to Russian energy supplies, while we simultaneously lower domestic energy costs, sustain the drive toward U.S. energy security, and support a strong economy. The American Energy Renaissance will be a win on all fronts."

Specifically the American Energy Renaissance Act proposes the following: Read More

House GOP mulls $174B Medicare vote

House Republican leaders are considering a vote next week on legislation that would abolish cuts to Medicare payments, a policy change that could cost upwards of $174 billion to enact.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his leadership team are quietly coordinating a bill, four sources say, in hopes of ending the decades-long battle over how much doctors and healthcare providers should be paid for treating Medicare patients.

But bringing up the legislation would be a huge gamble because it could spark a revolt among fiscal conservatives who are likely to balk at legislation that adds to the deficit.

A backlash on the right could force Boehner to rely on Democratic votes, once again thrusting House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) into the role of deal-maker…Read More

Senator Cruz Questions the Fairness of DAPA-DACA Programs to Legal Immigrants

March 6, 2015

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, yesterday questioned U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials on whether the agency is using funds from legal immigrants to subsidize President Obama's illegal executive amnesty, and raised questions about the degree to which the agency is complying with the recently issued federal court injunction.

Sen. Cruz inquired if there is any statutory measure that prevents the USCIS from using fees from legal immigrants to fund President Obama's illegal DAPA and DACA expansion programs.

The USCIS representatives refused to answer, stating, "I'm not qualified to make that kind of determination."

Sen. Cruz responded, "My first concern [with the president's executive amnesty] is that it is contrary to federal law and unconstitutional, and as I noted earlier a federal district court has agreed that it is contrary to law and has accordingly enjoined it. But another major concern is a question of fairness. That executive amnesty benefits and in fact gives preferences to those who are here illegally, and it does so to the detriment of legal immigrants, of those who have followed the law and come here legally."

Sen. Cruz presented two examples:

· If an immigrant entrepreneur wants to come to the United States and start a business, he must pay a fee of $1,500;
· If an immigrant investor wants to use capital to create American jobs, he is charged $6,230 under the immigrant investor pilot program.

And yet, those who broke the law and entered illegally and are applying for DACA or DAPA will not be charged any additional fees.

Sen. Cruz concluded, "I cannot think of any other fee program, any rational fee program, that allows those who break the law to be exempt from paying the fee, but if someone is foolish enough to actually try to comply with our immigration laws, to wait at home, to wait in line for years - sometimes decades - we smack them with a fee of $1,500 or $6,200, but those who are here illegally pay nothing. That strikes me as a program that is indefensible to the American people."

The segments of Sen. Cruz’s questions are available at here and here.

Citizens Will Be Cast Into The Shadows

The White House has plans to legalize more than 10 million illegal Americans and have them form a “country within a country.”

The following Mark Levin interview with Susan Payne is shocking but it also puts all the pieces into place.

Susan Payne is a contributor to WCBM, Baltimore and Co-Host of the Pat McDonough Radio Show, Unbeknownst to the Obama officials, Ms. Payne was invited to listen in on conference calls at an immigration rally. Cecilia Munoz, director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, and 16 members of the White House cabinet were on the first call. White House officials were on all three calls. What Ms. Payne learned needs to be immediately shared with congress and the public.

Cecilia Munoz:

The “Task Force of New Americans” and the “Receiving Communities” are part of a plan by the Obama administration to develop a “country within a country” which will eventually form a new, and instantly fundamentally transformed United States.

The conference calls and meetings surrounding the task force made it clear Barack Obama is planning to legalize and protect 13 to 15 million illegal immigrants who will then be moved onto citizenship.

When these “new Americans” come out of the shadows, the communities in which they’ve been placed will be designated as “receiving communities.”

The “new Americans” are considered “seedlings” by the White House and the “receiving communities” are the “fertile ground” to nurture them, according to comments made during the meetings.

Citizens will then be pushed into the shadows...Read More

Next week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address a joint session of Congress to warn lawmakers of the impending danger to Israel and the United States if the Obama administration moves forward in allowing Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.

It appears that President Barack Obama and his Secretary of State, John Kerry, have actually joined with those who seek the "destruction of the Jewish state." There is no other option for American Christians than to stand in opposition to the destructive actions and policies of the Obama White House.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to our lawmakers next week will be a clear warning to all of us about striking a deal with Iran, a nation whose ultimate goal is the destruction of Israel and the United States. The rogue nation will do anything or say anything to achieve that goal. The Israeli Prime Minister told an Israel radio station ...Read More

Barack Obama A Petulant Child

Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino is sick of President Obama blaming the Secret Service for his own poor decision making, and he’s not afraid to speak out. In a recent interview with The Daily Caller, Bongino blasted President Obama for citing security concerns as the reason he did not attend the anti-terrorism unity rally in Paris. The Secret Service says it was not asked to prepare for a presidential visit to France.

Bongino has a unique insider’s view into the workings of the White House. He served in the Secret Service under presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama before running for public office in Maryland. He says Obama blamed his protective detail because he knew they would not be able to rebut his account.

Bongino told The Daily Caller:

He knows there’s nothing the Secret Service can say. They don’t want to hurt the relationship so as a matter of decorum they can’t say anything. I imagine what they’re really thinking is, ‘Is this guy serious?’ It’s not an easy job. After the fence-jumper, morale’s not great over there now, but he still says something that is so obviously not true.

Just look at the Mandela funeral which was geometrically worse when it comes to threat and he went to that because he wanted to go. If the president wants to go he goes. The Secret Service doesn’t tell him he can’t go. That’s only in movies.

It’s not the first time. We had the White House tours incident. I’m not going to say he’s the first president to blame someone outside of his own executive office, but does he take responsibility for anything? Incorrigible is really the word for him. He acts like a child and no one outside of conservative media holds him to account. These people are forfeiting their lives for you… This guy is just acting like a petulant child.

Bongino went on to say Obama’s staff is “just amateur hour.” He says the administration does not function like a responsible White House, and he finds it “infuriating.”

When asked how other Secret Service agents feel about Obama, he says he thinks they are so used to the dysfunction that they just do their jobs, putting up a wall and blocking out all distractions. Bongino says the President “tosses them around like a red-headed stepchild.”

Texas Is Leading The Way To Stand Up To Obama’s Lawlessness

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today joined Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton for a press conference to present a united front among Texas leaders against the President's illegal executive amnesty.

A transcript of Sen. Cruz's remarks is below.

"Thank you Governor Abbott, thank you Lieutenant Governor Patrick. I'm very glad to be back home. This victory this week, the decision from the federal court was a major victory for the rule of law. All of us have reason to be proud that Texas led the way, standing up to President Obama's illegal and unconstitutional executive amnesty. All of us have reason to be proud that our Governor Greg Abbott, and our Attorney General Ken Paxton, led the way, standing up and fighting against lawlessness. It's worth underscoring that the federal district court order was very simple.

"It was that the President's amnesty order of November of last year was on its face illegal. The federal court looked to the President's asserted justification that it was ‘an exercise of prosecutorial discretion' and the federal court quite powerfully concluded that, that was not an accurate description of what the President's executive amnesty did because it was not simply declining to prosecute some four and a half million people who are here illegally but it was rather as the district court said, an affirmative act of issuing work authorizations that are flatly contrary to federal law. Printing up documents, in effect what the Obama administration was doing, was counterfeiting immigration documents because the work authorizations that the administration was printing are directly contrary to the plain text of federal law that says that those who are here illegally are not authorized to work.

"I want to note something additionally, which is the President this week has rightly said he's going to follow the court opinion, he's going to respect the judicial injunction that is in place, but yet also this week the President made a comment to the effect that preparations would continue ongoing to implement this illegal amnesty. It is worth noting the District Court's order was abundantly clear, the federal court enjoined any and all aspects of the illegal amnesty order. Now it's been publically reported that the Department of Homeland Security is in the process of opening new office space and hiring 1,000 additional employees in order to implement this illegal and unconstitutional amnesty, and I would note that if the Department of Homeland Security continues moving forward, that on its face is in violation of a federal court injunction against implementing any and all aspects of this order.

"One final observation: next week Congress will come back, and we have before us in Congress a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security. The House of Representatives has passed funding for the Department of Homeland Security, and we should fund the Department of Homeland Security. President Obama has placed Senate Democrats in a very difficult, in fact, in an impossible position. Right now Senate Democrats are filibustering to try to kill funding for the Department of Homeland Security in order to hold DHS hostage and force the President's executive amnesty program onto the American people. That amnesty program has now been declared illegal by a federal court, so Senate Democrats should look very closely at this opinion and decide if they are willing to jeopardize national security, which is both reckless and irresponsible in order to try to hold DHS funding hostage and to try to force implementation of an amnesty order that the federal court has now concluded is illegal."

Soros Global Fascism Group Wants North American Passports To Replace U. S. Passport

 By:  Rick Wells

The proponents of a North American Union have operated in plain view under the protections and at the behest of the Rockefeller supported Trilateral Commission since 1973. They use the derisive label of conspiracy theorist to minimize the public awareness deflect criticism about their plans to destroy American sovereignty. The creation of the European Union was a step along their path and now the United States and Canada find themselves squarely in the sights of the global fascists.

A group called “New America,” a George Soros-funded political organization, is taking an aggressive, anti-American posture in the furtherance of this destructive goal. The spawn of Soros, his son Jonathan Soros sits on the board of directors.

The group, naturally operating as a tax-free foundation, is pressing for the issuance of a unified North American passport...Read More

Training Camp For Muslims

Wednesday on The O'Reilly Factor, host Bill O'Reilly was joined by Ryan Mauro, National Security Analyst for the Clarion Project, which studies extremism. Mauro discussed five top organizations linked to Islamic extremism that are located in the United States.

One such example is the hamlet of Islamberg in the Town of Hancock, New York. Located 145 northwest of New York City, the secluded community is home to an unknown number of Muslims inspired by Sufi cleric Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Shah Gilani. Mauro said the compound is spread across 60-70 acres.

He showed O'Reilly a video given to him by a law enforcement source that shows members marching with rifles in apparent guerilla warfare training. As the group, Muslims of the Americas, is not designated as a foreign terrorist organization, they are able to operate in the United States with little more than FBI 'monitoring', Mauro said.

Another notable location is the Dar-al Hijrah mosque in the Seven Corners section of Falls Church, Va. The mosque was once led by Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen killed overseas after joining al Qaeda. The mosque, near Washington, D.C., is now led by an imam who Mauro noted has said 'Muslims shall be first in line for the arms for jihad."

Siraj Wahhaj, a radical imam whom O'Reilly discussed earlier this week, runs the Masjid At Taqwa mosque in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Wahhaj will be speaking at an upcoming conference in Texas.  Mauro called him "one of the most radical imams in the country."

The Islamic Circle of North America, a radical group which Mauro said is legitimized by only 2 percent of American Muslims, has its headquarters a few miles from Masjid At Taqwa in Queens, New York. One of its leaders has been indicted on war crimes charges in Bangladesh. Their 'teaching guide' directs readers to 'engage in deception in order to promote the jihadist cause'.

Finally, Mauro discussed CAIR, or the Council on American-Islamic Relations. One of its executives, Ibrahim Hooper, has appeared on FOX News Channel, notably engaging in a heated debate with Megyn Kelly in 2014 regarding Ayaan Hirsi Ali's revoked privilege to speak at Brandeis University. The US Department of Justice has classified CAIR as a 'political influence organization of the Muslim brotherhood'.

Perry Says Texas Will Protect Its Southern Borders

In July of 2014, Perry deployed 1,000 National Guard troops to the South Texas border to help stem the flow of illegal immigrants flooding the country through the Rio Grande.

He pointed out Thursday that 55 percent of all apprehensions of
illegal immigrants last year occurred along the 1,800-mile border between Mexico and Texas.

"That's the reason we've asked the president and Washington so often to do their duty, do their constitutional duty, send the resources, send the aviation assets, send the drones to defend and secure that border," he said.

"It can be done. You put the boots on the ground, the technology in the air, use the strategic fencing in the metropolitan areas, and that border can be secured. And Americans will sleep better knowing that their federal government is actually doing their constitutional duty."

Perry suggests three courses of action the president should take for America’s securities:

"Opening up the
XL Pipeline, opening up our federal estate to get the people working and getting out country more energy secure," he said.

"I'd add some corporate tax reforms that would give incentives to companies to continue to really look at expanding their manufacturing in the United States as these oil prices continue to go down and shale prices continue to push down the cost of electric power. There's no reason that America can't have a renaissance in the manufacturing side," Perry said.

"Then obviously, the third thing is border security. We have to have Washington doing its duty, but I tell people, I said listen, if Washington's not going to do its duty to secure the Texas and Mexico border, Texas will. We're going to send the resources that we need whether it's our law enforcement, whether it's our National Guard, to continue to send the message that Texas is going to do everything that it needs to do to keep its citizens safe and an extension of that."

Perry characterized President Barack Obama's absence at the
Paris unity rally last week as a huge mistake and a missed opportunity to show the world, especially Islamic terrorists, the West's solidarity.

"The message that was sent, when you see (German Chancellor Angela) Merkel, when you see (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu, when you see the other leaders of the NATO countries — and America to not be there, for America's leader to not be there standing up and sending the clear message that Western values are going to be defended, Western values that the world needs to be strong about.

"For him not to have been there was a huge mistake," Perry said. "Not only politically, it was a huge mistake from the standpoint of sending a message to those in the Islamic terrorist world that we are going to stand together, we are going to defeat you and the Western values that the world needs are going to be continued to be supported and defended."

Republican Writes Bombshell Handbook on Immigration

Lower wages, higher unemployment, and a heavier tax burden.

Those are the trio of “benefits” American citizens enjoy as a result of President Obama’s executive amnesty, according to a new handbook written by Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions. Sessions, one of the administration’s fiercest critics on the subject of illegal immigration, delivered the handbook on Monday to Republican congressman. Entitled “Immigration Handbook for the New Republican Majority,” it is a 25-page roadmap outlining what Sessions believes should be the GOP position on immigration.

“The largest untapped constituency in American politics are the 300 million American citizens who have been completely left out of the immigration debate,” Sessions says in the handbook. “Speak to that constituency—with clarity and compassion—and change the issue forever.”

Sessions’ argument is that Democrats...Read More

Facebook Censors Grassfire

 From the Desk of:
Steve Elliott, Grassfire

As you may know, Grassfire manages one of the largest conservative Facebook networks in the country. Our pages connect nearly 2 million patriotic citizens, and our activity on Facebook generates hundreds of thousands of interactions each week.

And we don't shy away from the tough issues!

But that gets us into trouble with the "thought police" at Facebook. A few days ago, Facebook took the extraordinary move of suspending our Eric Odom, stripping our site of what it deemed an unacceptable post, and notifying me directly that if such actions continued, our largest page on Facebook would be "permanently removed."

What was our "Facebook crime"?

Grassfire dared to share a post that criticized radical Islam
. As always, our critiques of Islam point out the true danger that radical Islam poses to those who love freedom.  Facebook did not go after the site that originated the post, just us. And this is the third time in recent weeks we have shared something critical of Islam that resulted in Facebook censoring Grassfire's voice.

Interestingly, Facebook's censoring actions took place around the same time that radical Islamic terrorists launched their shooting spree in France -- a terror campaign that continued to Friday and has cast a shadow of fear across all of Europe.

Meanwhile, according to Facebook, we are the one who should be feared and must be censored, not the radical Muslims!

This latest attack by Facebook comes just as Grassfire is getting ready to launch an entirely new initiative that I believe will help re-invigorate how patriotic citizens get involved in the key issues of our day. It feels very much like "Grassfire 2.0" -- we are getting ready to announce a new model that connects you even more directly to the key points in the battle.

I'll be sharing more in the coming days.

Has Your Doctor Asked if You Have a Gun

 By Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

James J. Knights had a doctor's appointment for a sore hip when a nurse asked him whether he kept firearms at home. The 61-year-old retired special agent with the FBI in Pittsburgh was taken aback.

"It's really no one's business. It's none of their business," said Knights, who refused to answer the nurse's question.

The gun question was part of a battery of inquiries into the Butler County resident's health -- an increasingly common practice in doctors' offices across the country as the medical profession attempts to get a handle on the varied factors that can impact health.

But the issue can stir strong emotions in America. In Florida, for example, the Republican-controlled legislature in 2011 passed a law making it illegal for doctors to inquire about guns in the home or record gun-ownership information in medical records.

The Firearm Owners' Privacy Act, which became known as "Docs vs. Glocks," was hailed by the National Rifle Association and upheld by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta in July.

Dr. David Nash said patients should get used to being asked about gun safety and many other topics seemingly outside the realm of the typical visit to a doctor's office.

Nash is dean of Thomas Jefferson University's School of Population Health in Philadelphia and a proponent of the idea that 80 percent of a population's well-being is determined by social factors such as where they live, who their family is, their socioeconomic status and the quality of their relationships.

"We're beginning to recognize that your ecosystem, if you will, is predictive of your medical health," Nash said. "If you have a gun at home, you're more at risk of gun-related violence."

But the questions don't stop there. Doctors are frequently asking patients about their marriages, work-related stress, whether they have working smoke detectors at home or if they wear seat belts in cars.

"In family medicine, we're really focusing on prevention and wellness," said Dr. Wanda Filer, a family physician from York County. She is president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians, one of the many professional societies that recommends health providers probe potential risks to a patient's health.

"We tend to look at the whole context in which the patient lives," she said.

The American College of Physicians recommends doctors counsel patients on the risk of having firearms in the home.

"The medical profession has a special responsibility to speak out on prevention of firearm-related injuries and deaths, just as physicians have spoken out on other public health issues," according to a position paper the organization published this year.

Many of these questions have been part of physician training for years, Filer said. But they're being asked more frequently now by more doctors for two intertwined reasons. Greater use of electronic health record systems is prompting doctors, nurses and other providers to ask. And the resulting data is collected and analyzed by health systems to track improvements in population health.

"The more I learn about you, while it might be a little scary, it can help me better care for you," Nash said.

While it may seem unusual for a patient to discuss credit card debt with his doctor, for instance, Nash argues that money troubles can lead people to avoid medical care, such as diagnostic tests and prescription medications.

Knights doesn't see it that way.

"Where do these questions end?" he said. "Are they going to ask me if I have a swimming pool? If I use a bath mat? I mean, it's crazy."

But Dr. Anthony Fiorillo, a UPMC internal medicine physician who has helped direct the rollout of electronic medical records at the hospital network, said doctors ask about gun safety and other behavior -- including smoking and diet -- because they want to keep their patients healthy.

"It's just like making sure they have handrails on the stairs to prevent falls," Fiorillo said. "It's really a health and safety issue."

January 7 2015

Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) voted to fund President Obama's executive amnesty during the lame-duck session contrary to his earlier statements. He was one of several Senators who had come out against the president's actions, but then voted much differently.

These Senators, including Senator Johnson had an opportunity to back up their rhetoric with action when Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) raised a "point of order" challenging the constitutionality of the president's executive action while the Senate debated the 2015 spending bill.

While 21 other Senators stood up and voted with Senator Cruz, 28 Senators who had previously come out against executive amnesty voted in favor of fully funding it.

After the president announced his plans for executive amnesty, Senator Johnson released the following statement:

President Obama declared a series of immigration actions through executive fiat. He has dictated his own laws — cutting out the American people and Congress — and then hypocritically declared he wants to debate the issue in good faith. … Over the last two years, President Obama has repeatedly stated that he does not have the constitutional authority to change immigration laws unilaterally.

For a full list of U.S. Senators who voted for and against the Senator Cruz's point of order, see the roll call vote.

No You Can Not Have It Both Ways

If nothing else, 2014 proved to be the year the media took off its mask of “unbiased” presentation. Instead, we saw just how twisted a news narrative can be when the left decides they have a story on their hands. We also saw how easily they can dismiss those stories that don’t fit the narrative. They use the same technique for both. By deciding which “bad guys” are lone wolves and which are “examples of a system gone mad,” the left taught America what to think this year.

The Individual or the System?

When it came to the case of 22-year-old Elliot Rodger, a spree killer who released a laborious manifesto against women and the persecution of the white man, the media decided it was time to talk about the larger picture. Rodger was a symptom of entitled white privilege. One writer over at Salon said, “we seem wholly uninterested in talking about pathological white masculinity, which continues to assert itself in the most dangerous and deadly of ways.”

But when it came to the case of Alton Alexander Nolen, a radicalized Muslim who beheaded a woman at his workplace in Oklahoma, no such dialogue was needed. We didn’t need to (once again) talk about the dangerous rise of Islamic extremism. This was simply a sick individual criminal whose story should be handled only by the justice system.

Racism or Criminal Behavior?

When it came to the story of Michael Brown’s death in Ferguson, Officer Darren Wilson was a symptom of police brutality against black men in the United States. This one case stood for everything. President Obama himself jumped into the fray, claiming that it was time for widespread police reform. The protests – driven by this narrative – continue to this day.

But when it came to the story of Ferguson’s destruction in the wake of the grand jury verdict, we were told that it was only a matter of a few agitators in the crowd. Even while the news showed us hundreds of people looting stores, rioting, and burning the city’s businesses, the media held firm: the protests were largely peaceful. These were just a few bad apples who made the trip from other parts of the country. We were also told to believe the same when it came to the tragic story of Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who shot two NYPD cops after making numerous social media postings explaining his motives. He wasn’t part of our movement, said the media. He’s just a criminal, nothing more. Nothing to see here.

For the liberals in our country, there is no such thing as a dangerous movement as long as minorities are involved. If a few fraternities have to shut down because a fake rape story made the news, that’s just fine. If a few white cops have to go to jail because of a fake “hands up, don’t shoot” story, so much the better. If we have to sacrifice a few innocent people to make sure we don’t offend Muslims, well, that’s just what we’ll have to do.

And if polls show that the majority of the American people aren’t buying into these stories? That’s just proof that the problem is even worse than we thought.

Boehner Ally Steve Scalise Rocked By White Supremacy Scandal

A member of John Boehner’s inner circle is under fire even as the House Speaker is at his most vulnerable: Exactly one week before the House GOP’s top official will seek re-election to his post.

“Every member who votes for John Boehner is vulnerable because not only is he unpopular with the base after his lame duck deception, but now he’s exposing members to the results of his poor judgement,” a senior GOP aide told Breitbart News after news broke Monday from the Washington Post and local Louisiana sources that House Majority Whip Steve Scalise spoke at a conference of white supremacists back in 2002. Obama warns GOP he plans to use veto pen in 2015

December 29, 2014

HONOLULU (AP) — Bracing to do business with a Congress run solely by Republicans, President Barack Obama is serving notice he has no qualms about vetoing legislation he dislikes.

This would be a significant change in style for Obama, come January when the new Congress will be seated with the GOP not only in command in the House but also the Senate as well.

He's wielded the veto pen through his first nearly six years very sparingly. Since taking office in 2009, Obama has only vetoed legislation twice, both in fairly minor circumstances.

"I haven't used the veto pen very often since I've been in office," Obama said in an NPR interview airing Monday. "Now, I suspect, there are going to be some times where I've got to pull that pen out."

He added: "I'm going to defend gains that we've made in health care. I'm going to defend gains that we've made on environment and clean air and clean water."

Obama's warning to the GOP that he'll veto legislation if necessary to protect his agenda and laws like the Affordable Care Act came as he sought to set the tone for a year in which Congress and the president are on a near-certain collision course. Buoyed by decisive gains in last month's midterm elections, Republicans are itching to use their newfound Senate majority to derail Obama's plans on immigration, climate change and health care, to name a few.

To overturn Obama's veto, Republicans would need the votes of two-thirds of the House and Senate. Their majorities in both chambers are not that large, so they would still need to persuade some Democrats to defy the president.

But Obama said he was hopeful that at least on some issues, that won't be necessary, because there's overlap between his interests and those of congressional Republicans. On that point, at least, he's in agreement with incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

"Bipartisan jobs bills will see the light of day and will make it to the President's desk, and he'll have to make decisions about ideology versus creating jobs for the middle class," McConnell said in response to Obama's comments. "There's a lot we can get done together if the president puts his famous pen to use signing bills rather than vetoing legislation his liberal allies don't like."

Potential areas for cooperation include tax reform and global trade deals — both issues where Obama and Republicans see at least partially eye to eye. Conversely, the likeliest points of friction surround Environmental Protection Agency regulations, the Keystone XL pipeline and Obama's unilateral steps on immigration, which let millions of people in the U.S. illegally avoid deportation and get work permits.

In the interview, recorded before Obama left Washington earlier this month for his annual Hawaii vacation, Obama also offered his most specific diagnosis to date of why Democrats fared so poorly in the midterms. He said he was "obviously frustrated" with the results.

"I think we had a great record for members of Congress to run on and I don't think we — myself and the Democratic Party — made as good of a case as we should have," Obama said. "And you know, as a consequence, we had really low voter turnout, and the results were bad."

Obamacare Fines to Rise for Uninsured

Being uninsured in America will cost you more in 2015.

It's the first year all taxpayers have to report to the Internal Revenue Service whether they had health insurance for the previous year, as required under President Barack Obama's law. Those who were uninsured face fines, unless they qualify for one of about 30 exemptions, most of which involve financial hardships. Read More
